Mahaska County 911 Communications-Telecommunicator

Hours: Mahaska County 911 Communications has a 24/7 work schedule.  Please be aware that nights, weekends, and holidays are required; this is not a Monday-Friday office job.  

Mahaska County Emergency Management is seeking applications from qualified applicants to train as full time 911 public safety telecommunicators for law enforcement, fire, and medical emergencies. This position will be responsible for specialized work in answering, receiving, transferring, and dispatching messages over a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and public safety radio communications system.

Qualifications include:  Must be at least 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or GED.  Applicants will also be required to pass a written test.  Prior experience is preferred, but on the job training is provided. 

Special requirements:    Within six months of hire complete NCIC Certification. Within one year of hire, complete telecommunication training, Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification, and CPR. Within two years of hire, must have completed all of the following:  ICS and NIMS Courses: ICS 100, 200, and NIMS IS 700, IS 800.
