Being ready for a disaster has never been more important than now. With recent severe weather and flooding, everyone needs to realize how important it is to plan for the worst, and pray for the best. Many times it has been said "that would never happen here!" MCEMA believes it isn't a matter of if, but a matter of when. 

Who would have thought an F5 tornado would wipe out half of a town in rural Iowa, or an entire rural town in Kansas? No one thought we would see floods like we did in 1993 for at least another 100 years, and in 2008 we hit the 500 year flood mark and went on to top that flood in 2010.

SOME BASIC THINGS YOU CAN DO

• Create a basic emergency plan and go over it with your family (i.e. fire escape or tornado plans, then practice it, especially if you have kids).
• Prepare a disaster supply kit with water, non-perishable food, tools and equipment, and then some personal items like medications. Make sure you have enough for at least 72 hours.
• Have first aid kits on hand.
